Johannes Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes (Liebeslieder-Walzer) are divided into two sets: Op. 52 and Op. 65, the latter titled Neue Liebeslieder (New Love Songs). These charming works are composed in the Ländler stylea traditional Austrian folk danceand are written for vocal ensemble with piano four hands.
The lyrics are drawn from Georg Friedrich Daumers Polydora, a collection of folk-inspired poems and love songs. Although there is no definitive record of what specifically inspired Brahms to compose these waltzes, many believe they reflect his unfulfilled love for Clara Schumann, the renowned pianist and composer with whom he shared a deep and complex relationship.
This arrangement is for solo flute.
