Product Description

Aida (also spelled Aïda, Italian pronunciation: [aˈiːda]) is a tragic opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with an Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. Set during the Old Kingdom of Egypt, the opera was commissioned by the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, where it premiered on December 24, 1871, under the baton of Giovanni Bottesini.

Aida quickly became a cornerstone of the operatic repertoire and continues to be performed regularly on stages around the world. At New Yorks Metropolitan Opera alone, the work has been performed more than 1,100 times since its house debut in 1886.

The libretto was based on a detailed scenario often credited to French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette, who played a role in the operas development. However, some scholarssuch as Verdi biographer Mary Jane Phillips-Matzargue that the true source of the story may be Temistocle Solera, an earlier collaborator of Verdis.

One of the operas most iconic arias is Celeste Aida, sung by the lead tenor as a heartfelt tribute to his beloved Aida.

This arrangement is for solo flute.
